New Mexico’s Best Geriatric Team

J. Roberto Duran, III, MD, CMD

Dr. Duran is the CEO and Medical Director of Southwest Center on Aging, Let’s Celebrate Aging and founder of GeriTalks. He has over a decade of training, academic, and research experience that has shaped his profound knowledge in his field, including completing a residency in Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in El Paso, and accomplished fellowships in Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Dr. Duran was also part of the medical staff at the Methodist Hospital and a postdoctoral fellow in Echocardiography at the Methodist DeBakey Heart Center in Houston, TX. In addition, he was also appointed Clinical Associate Professor at the University of New Mexico, Burrell College of Medicine and Mountain View Internal Medicine Residency in the Department of Medicine and Geriatrics. Dr. Duran has been Medical Director of multiple nursing homes and he is currently Medical Director for Home Health and Hospice here in Las Cruces, NM. Dr. Duran when he is not working, you can find him spending precious time with his wife, two daughters, and son. As an avid golfer, he also takes joy in being a caddie for his son, who plays competitive golf.

Tyson Kay, MPSAS, PA-C

Tyson Kay is a nationally certified physician assistant working in Geriatric Medicine at the Southwest Center on Aging. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Cell and Molecular Biology with a Minor in Chemistry at the University of Utah, receiving his Service-Learning Scholar, Research Scholar, and Honors Certificate in 2012. He then completed his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of St. Francis in 2017 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Kay is a fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and New Mexico Academy of Physician Assistants. He is also a committee member for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and involved in various community events.

In his spare time, Mr. Kay enjoys hiking and camping with his dogs Missy and Trigger, running, traveling, and visiting family.

Mary Younger, AGACNP

Mary Younger is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner working at the Southwest Center on Aging since January of 2024. She is an Army Veteran who completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia. The bulk of Mary’s diverse nursing experience consists of working in Intensive Care Units and Emergency Room settings. Mary attended the University of Texas at El Paso and completed her Master’s of Science in Nursing, specializing in Geriatrics and Critical Care.

In Mary’s spare time, she enjoys being around her husband, Kederick, and their six children. Her favorite hobbies include lifting heavy weights, watching movies, and caring for her surplus of houseplants.
